Its 1987 - 1993 inner city Sydney, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo. Was there something in the water? Art squats, live music, galleries and fashion studios flourished. Cheap rent in grotty terraces and warehouses allowed artists to focus and thrive. Music developed that spawned international genres, the rock n roll was dirty, the painters were political, art was everything, it was active and it was militant.
Newsagency Gallery presents THE 4 HORSEMEN, an oil painting exhibition by artists born of this anarchic time, a time when Sydney was a city for young people and a city for artists. Jimmy Willing, Chas Glover, Ben Cahill and John O’Driscoll are the four horsemen, now in their 50s, they re-connect to present their latest work, as well as signature pieces from the past.
