HABITAT : new works by Christie Torrington
@ Newsagency Gallery
13-27 October 2017
Opening night: Friday 13 October, 6pm-10pm
Christie Torrington is a visual artist based in Sydney, Australia. Her new body of work, entitled Habitat, invites us to explore notions of scale and interrogate how we as humans perceive our own space within the natural world.
Habitat is about the tension between the barren and the bountiful.
Habitat evokes a sense of being in between spaces - a reminder of the uneasy balance between humanity and nature.
Habitat lays bare the interior and exterior spaces of the world in which we live, exposing what lies beneath, creating an ‘iceberg’ effect – a reminder that we are a part of something much greater.
New worlds emerge from fractured geological and microbial forms, which float like meteoric islands in the void. We are reminded of the future potential of our own destruction, the remnants of civilisation, floating in the ether, hovering in the meaninglessness of space.
Please join the artist on Friday 13 October from 6-10pm for opening night drinks, music and conversation at Newsagency Gallery, Petersham.
