Felt in contemporary sculpture is a medium that has a strong tactile allure. Known since Neolithic times, felt is humanity’s first textile, and has the ability to form intriguing shapes. In this workshop wool fibres will be felted by hand using agitation and soapy water, coaxing them into sculptural shapes. Learn fundamental techniques making hollow forms using a resist, as well as techniques for the modelling of solid felt shapes. Combine these skills in a sculptural project of your own design. Learn how to calculate for shrinkage and how to plan a 3 dimensional object using a 2d resist. Explore the wonderful realm of sculpture in felt.
